This is Roger Tinker owner and general manager of all star pest control in Columbus, Georgia. I’m going to discuss chiggers which are commonly called red bugs. In this discussion, I will refer to them as checkers. I will discuss what checkers are, how and where they infect humans and finally how to control them. chiggers or actually might call red bugs because of their bright red or reddish orange appearance. Only the larval stage attacks humans or animals, which means they adult takers don’t bite you. They’re biting is achieved by injecting a digestive fluid in the skin that breaks down the skin cells and then ingesting your skin. They do not burr in the skin, as many people believe. chiggers usually bite you around your ankles, but they will move up your body all the way up to your armpits. Your skin will probably itch for a week or longer once you’ve been bitten by chegar there are several ways to treat chigger bites, which include scrubbing baits with soap and water, using calamine lotion or hydrocortisone. checkers are most active during the summer much control is cheap in several ways. Keeping your grass cut low and removing any debris in your yard will go a long way to reducing chigger infestation. Using a pesticide in your yard that is labeled for chicken control will reduce and infestation. protection against attacks on Tiggers also include using repellents or toxicants that contain pur Megatherium or DEET.
