Hello, this is Roger Tinker owner and general manager of all star pest control in Columbus, Georgia. Today I want to discuss cigarette beetles, which are a pantry pest. One of our technicians brought us a bag with some very tiny bugs to identify. I asked Pest Management Specialist Katie McBride to put them under the microscope to identify the bugs. Katie identified them as cigarette beetles, but noted that they are very similar to the drugstore Beetle in appearance, I could not tell the difference between the two without a microscope myself. A pest control technician cannot know every patch that they encounter. But a good technician will have and use the resources available to correctly identify the past and then use the right treatment procedures to solve the problem. Simply killing the past does not necessarily solve the problem. I will discuss basic information of the cigarette beetle as well as basic information on the drugstore beetle, as they are very similar. Both of these beetles are hard to tell apart with a microscope as stated earlier. They have similar traits, as they both are external feeders. And both prefer raisins, pasta, seeds, flower, cereal, spices, purpose, and even pet food. And of course, the cigarette beetle likes to back out so there are several steps we recommend solving the problem. I want to know how the Beatles got into the stretch and then prevent the past from returning. The benching is achieved by inspecting all articles as they enter the structure, keeping things clean and removing any spills that occur. Storing all material in containers and rotation of stock will greatly help reducing moisture in areas where the food is stored. By having proper ventilation as beetles need a lot of moisture to survive. The next step would be to vacuum any beetles that you see. And finally spray in an aerosol was synergized parizium will kill the remaining beetles. Please note that the problem is not solved is all you do is spray and not follow the steps that I have outlined for you. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance
